Covar Law Group’s focus on solar fraud grew out of founder Darren Covar’s background investigating complex fraud and more than 30 years of experience helping individuals across several professions.

Before becoming an attorney, Covar served in several law enforcement roles, including as a Special Agent with the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. While serving on the Joint Terrorism Task Force alongside the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he worked on a three-year investigation into an organized fraud operation targeting undocumented immigrants across the country. His work on fraud cases later earned him recognition as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the U.S. Department of Justice.

After earning his law degree with honors from Nova Southeastern University, Darren founded Covar Law Group to represent individuals facing complex legal issues. As recurring patterns emerged in residential solar sales and financing, the firm shifted its focus exclusively to solar fraud matters.

That focus continues to shape how Covar Law Group evaluates each case.

Darren Covar

Founder & Managing Partner

Darren Covar has over 30 years’ experience helping people across several professions. With a bachelor's, master's, and specialist's degree in mental health counseling, he started his professional career as a high school guidance counselor. After 8 years working in the school system, he decided to switch careers and attended the Broward County Police Academy, becoming a Cooper City Police Officer, a Palm Beach Deputy Sheriff, and then a Special Agent for the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. While a Special Agent, he served on the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Immigration Customs Enforcement on a three-year investigation into an organized fraud taking advantage of undocumented immigrants from across the country. It was through his work with the U.S. Attorney's Office on complex fraud investigations that he decided to attend law school at night while still working as a Special Agent. He was awarded Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the U.S. Department of Justice for his dedication and perseverance on fraud cases that stretched across the country.

After graduating from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law with honors, he retired from law enforcement and opened up his own law firm. While always focussing on helping individual clients rather than corporations, it was the wave of solar fraud allegations that caused him to reposition the firm as one of the first to identify the nationwide epidemic. The law firm now specializes and focuses solely on solar fraud cases.

Alex Covar

Attorney

Alex Covar is an attorney with Covar Law Group, where his practice focuses on consumer protection matters involving residential solar contracts and financing. His work includes claims involving the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), and related financial disclosure requirements.

Covar began working with Covar Law Group as a law clerk in 2016 and became an attorney with the firm in 2024. His experience has also included federal immigration matters, including representing clients before Federal Immigration Court and drafting briefs to the Board of Immigration Appeals.

Covar earned his law degree from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law, with a concentration in Intellectual Property, Technology, and Cybersecurity. He earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology from Florida Atlantic University, graduating magna cum laude in both programs. Covar is admitted to practice in Florida, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
